Another day, another Meat and Three. Sounds like a plan to me!
Yesterday’s visit took me to
Hendersonville, Tennessee again, to a place
that changed hands a short time ago.
Ruby’s Kitchen
[
http://www.meatandthree.com/tn/rubyskitchen/], formerly Irene’s
Frontier Kitchen, is located in an L-shaped office building with a
nice, clean brick exterior. Mom and I arrived at about noon today, and
were able to get a table right away. Although
never totally full, there was a steady stream of customers in and out while we were there.
Most of the customers today were men, both “working men” (per Mom) and
a few professionals. Some couples, a few senior ladies and some senior
guys rounded out the remainder of the visitors who were seated among
the approximately 25 tables.
After seating ourselves, our friendly and helpful waitress (did not
give us her name) recommended Deb’s Chicken, which sounded good. I
ordered that along with fried okra and some real mashed potatoes with
gravy. Mom selected baked chicken, turnip greens and stewed
okra-and-tomatoes. Cornbread and tea/diet coke rounded out our
enjoyable meals.
Ruby’s Kitchen has not done much in the decoration arena beyond the
faux paint on the upper portion of the walls and the walnut-ish paint
color on the bottom sections. The only thing on the walls is the one
white board which details the daily offerings beyond the normal menu
items. The one decoration Mom noticed was the rooster on the checkout
counter, and she speculated that they were maybe moving to a Tuscan theme,
but have just not gotten there yet.
By the time the meal was finished, I was a little disappointed that I
was just too full to enjoy one of the very tempting desserts. The
“to-die-for” blueberry cobbler (as described by our waitress) must have
been as good as she said - she took a break and enjoyed some cobbler
herself while we were there.
In the parking lot, we observed a variety of vehicles that matched the
mix of customers in the restaurant: a Buick, BMW’s, old trucks, an
Oldsmobile, and a gorgeous vintage Corvette, among others. I know my son would have
loved to see that 'Vette.
If you are in Hendersonville, consider visiting Ruby‘s Kitchen, and
tell them I said so. I think you will be satisfied and will be glad you
checked it out. Let me know about your visit to Ruby’s Kitchen or to any other Meat and Three by emailing me at
phil@meatandthree.com. I’m especially interested in hearing about the history of Meat and Threes, so let me hear from you.
Stay tuned for more!
