It has been a little while since I have written about my visits to Meat and Threes. Call it writer's block, or too many projects going on at the same time, a combination of both, etc. In any event, here is a listing of where I have been in the last several weeks:
  • Moss's Cafe [http://www.meatandthree.com/tn/mossscafe/] in Clarksville, TN; this visit was a solo one on a Friday and I had catfish, green beans, mashed potatoes and sweet tea.
  • Mason Jar [http://www.meatandthree.com/tn/masonjar/] in Hendersonville, TN with my daughter, Kelley; she had chicken casserole, dumplings, mashed potatoes and gravy, a roll, and sweet tea; mine was baked chicken, black-eyed peas, squash casserole, cornbread and sweet tea; we shared a piece of chocolate fudge pie.
  • B. McNeel's Restaurant [http://www.meatandthree.com/tn/bmcneels/] in Murfreesboro, TN with my oldest daughter; Kathryn had a vegetable plate (cream corn, green beans, mashed potatoes) and their fruit tea; my choices were chicken tenders, squash casserole, glazed carrots and fruit tea; we both splurged and had  a piece of their caramel pie.
  • Bailey and Cato [http://www.meatandthree.com/tn/baileyandcato/] located in Nashville, TN with my friend, Randy Fought; BBQ, baked apples, green beans and sweet tea were Randy's choices, while I had the fried chicken, green beans, mashed potatoes and sweet tea.
  • Other lunch-time meals at places I have previously written about include: Cal's Country Kitchen in Madison, TN with my son, Chris; and Star Cafe in Goodlettsville, TN with the family after church on Sunday
If you are like me, sometimes your schedule is absolutely crazy and you barely have time to eat. When it gets like that for you, I encourage you to just force yourself to get out of the office and go get some great comfort food at a local Meat and Three cafe, restaurant or diner. Order a plate of veggies if you think the full "meat and three" will induce a coma back at your desk and get you in trouble with the boss. There is often a mix of "light" menu choices that will fit the bill, so don't let anything stop you.

Sometimes, though, you just have to go for it and throw caution to the wind. Order the meatloaf, the mashed potatoes, cream corn, and green beans. Throw in some cornbread and some 'naner pudding. Enjoy a couple of glasses of sweet tea. Drift off into the wonderful world of dreams.

Okay, that's enough. I tend to ramble and get carried away a bit. The point is to take the time to enjoy life, your family and friends, and the benefits we have living in this country. Meat and Three restaurants are a great slice of life in America and are one of those small benefits. They are small businesses that provide a wonderful service to many people on a daily basis. People from every segment of society. Ok, maybe not Donald Trump or Zsa Zsa Gabor, but you see just about every type of person at Meat and Threes. It's part of the "hook" and the fun and it's daring. So, get out there and take a chance by visiting one you have never been to. Tell the owner you appreciate what they are doing and are glad they are in business. Give a little bit bigger tip and a great big smile.

Enjoy!
